It was time to leap.
I quit my “stable” job and booked a one-way ticket to Bali… all in the span of a few weeks.
Did I have a plan? No.
Did I have a huge savings? Nope. (hence the one-way ticket)
Was I freaking out? Well, let’s just say my mental state swung between “I’m free!” and “I’m insane!” multiple times a day.
When you’re living drastically out of alignment and your body is screaming at you for a change, you get to a point where jumping face first into the unknown is the only option left.
I’d rather flounder in the darkness than spend a minute longer living out someone else’s vision for me. That sentiment still holds today.
Something magical happens when you decide to take a leap… but it’s not what you think.
As humans we assume that every decision we make will have a direct result… “If I do this… then I’ll get this immediately.” Ha, the Universe doesn’t quite work that way.
What does happen right away cannot be seen with our physical eyes… Our leap opens up an energetic doorway for us to walk through.
Think of it as a video game: Beat the scary villain (aka the thoughts in your head) and jump off the cliff and you’ll unlock the next level.
At this new level…
Your identity/avatar upgrades. Supercharged You unlocked.
You have more powers, gifts and tools to work with.
You can see things from a new perspective, a higher one.
New ideas, people & resources arrive to support you in “winning” at this level of the game.
There will be bigger obstacles (and bigger pay-offs), but you have everything you need to push past and succeed. And the experience of “winning” prior levels is your foundation to keep going.
(Btw, I didn’t expect to go full video game metaphor today, but I’ve been watching my boyfriend and his little sister play Call of Duty the past few days, so here we are.)
When you take a leap, you don’t necessarily get the tangible thing (new job! more money! 10K months! success!) right away like you expected, but you do 100% unlock the next level version of you who can create it. And that’s pretty freaking incredible… right?
Okay okay, we went down a tangent there for a minute. You’re probably wondering, what happened next…
Well, I went to Bali and lived like a queen for a month. (Digital nomad avatar activated.)
I journaled on the beach. I snorkeled with giant manta rays (equally terrifying and exciting). I napped a few times a day. I frolicked around the island on a scooter with my new BFF Sam. I went to a yoga retreat solo. I experienced my first reiki healing session. I sourced woven pillows, bags and decor for my vintage shop. I got a few new piercings. A local shaman activated my third eye and prana life force. I sipped on coconuts and ate banana pancakes…
It was full Eat Pray Love over here (Hi
ILY!). Aside from the 33 mosquito bites covering my body, it felt like a glimpse of the life I desired to create. More freedom, more joy, more adventure. And I was fully living it.Outside of the external magic, I was receiving clarity on what direction I wanted to move in next. I knew it was time to move to Austin. I knew I wanted to work for myself. I knew what I was 100% done with… corporate life, big brands, unintentional work, tech start ups. Unsubscribe.
Fast forward to my last week in Bali and money was dwindling. Reality (and anxiety) was setting in that I had to go home and figure out a career plan ASAP.
That same week an old coworker messaged me that he had a potential freelance opportunity and asked for my portfolio. I frantically put one together in my hotel room that day. “This is it!”, I thought.
The job fell through, but I had a portfolio to share because of it…I decided to fire it off to a few promising listings I found on Upwork. What did I have to lose? The Universe was looking out. I ended up booking an interview a few days after I got home and snagged my first freelance client at $5K/month. What?!
I could write it off as a miracle, but I knew it was a reflection of all the leaps I had taken months prior.
(This is the moment where you regain trust in all the leaps YOU have taken, too. They’re working for you behind the scenes. Keep believing.)
I booked a second client shortly after and within a few months of patiently waiting and surrendering, I was able to finally make the move to Austin. It was happening!!!! 5 years in the making.
Austin opened up a chapter that would last 2 years. A chapter where I could really breathe and become who I desired to be, away from home, friends, the known. I needed the physical (and energetic) distance to break the patterns I was living in for all of my 20’s. This time catapulted me into massive healing, expansion and growth in career, spirituality, relationships and love.
I thought Austin would be my forever home, but looking back it was a launchpad for this wild adventure my soul chose for me.
Little did I know what was coming next.
